The renowned Australian Chamber Orchestra is the resident orchestra for this year’s Tai Kwun Parade Ground Music Festival. It brings together outstanding string players from Australia and around the world, leading Hong Kong audiences to trace back the glorious Silk Road of Venice. Located at the intersection of Western Europe and the Ottoman Empire, Venice, which could only be accessed by water at that time, was not only a unique financial center but also an international trade capital. Fantastic ideas and treasures from Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa poured in, colliding with European culture to the fullest, making Venice a vibrant cultural melting pot. The concert takes Vivaldi’s timeless ‘The Four Seasons’ as the central axis and vividly depicts the scenes of that golden age. The artistic director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Richard Tognetti, gives the work a brand new arrangement, interspersing the wonderful works of Egyptian-Australian oud player and composer Joseph Tawadros who currently lives in Australia, adding sparks to the familiar music. The two seemingly distant musical realms of Arabic traditional music and Italian Baroque are surprisingly close in melody, harmony, rhythm, and playing techniques, complementing each other. This can’t help but make people sigh. The more we understand history, the more we will find that different cultures are so similar.

Opening hours: Thursday, December 5 – December 5; Sunday, December 8. The performance time and duration are subject to the site.
