**Introduction:**
Wachi is a five-member band established in Guangdong Province, China. The name ‘Wachi’ originates from a puddle in the yard where the band members used to play. The tadpoles in the pool all grew into frogs soon after. The industrial economy of cities in southern China, along with the long rainy season and summer in the subtropics, makes their musical impulses strong and exuberant. The confusion and sadness generated in the process of exploring themselves and society add a moist blue tone to Wachi’s music.
**Rise to Fame:**
After releasing several self-produced demos in 2020, Wachi quickly attracted the attention of China’s independent music scene. Wachi’s live performances are known for their rich emotional tension.
**Musical Influences and Style:**
Influenced by progressive rock, college rock, and ethnic music, Wachi’s music has a flexible structure and diverse, recognizable melody lines. Wachi’s lyrics are full of simple and vivid images of daily life, constructing diverse and interesting metaphors.
**Album ‘Outing’:**
In the album ‘Outing’ released by Wachi in the summer of 2023, there are the crisp rhythms of Spanish that rise and fall one after another, the rhythm of the dombra, the folk songs of northwest China, and the singing styles of Miao people’s flying songs. The five members of the band interact and respond instantly in improvisation. Words, melodies, and rhythms grow together in the rehearsal room. The human voice melody wanders freely. The two guitars sometimes talk to each other and sometimes move forward side by side. The drums and bass steadily find the light and heavy of the melody parts, forming a vigorous rhythm.

Wachi is composed of Jin Yiyi (lead singer), Disheng and Ah Hao (guitars), Sanfeng (bass), and Wu Chuhao (drummer).
