A confluence of culture, where a hundred crafts compete in skill.
For thousands of years, the spiritual beauty of the mountains and rivers and the misty charm of Jiangnan have nurtured the unique artistic beauty of Zhejiang. This has given birth to traditional crafts such as Dongyang wood carving, Qingtian stone carving, Huangyang wood carving, Ou sculpture, Xiaoshan lace, Longquan celadon, and Longquan swords.
The earth silently nurtures all things, and the ingenuity of craftsmen creates divine works. They source materials locally and innovate continuously. The rich shapes and unique skills are a tribute to time, a greeting to life, a sublimation of material and quality, and a tacit understanding of appreciation and use.
‘Half is mortal fire, half is poetry.’ It is hoped that this limited collection will allow you to appreciate the basic aspects of Zhejiang’s arts and crafts. In a state of forgetting oneself and things, through spiritual communication with the artists, one may discover a better self.
