Known for its avant-garde programs, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble will collaborate for the first time with the Padmabhushan Ustad Mushtaq Husain Khan Association (PUMHKA), which is rooted in Hong Kong and dedicated to promoting Indian performing arts. They will present six unique performances on the stone steps of the laundry yard. Complementing the key program ‘Four Seasons of the Stars and the Moon’ of this year’s music festival. The former traces the Silk Road of Venice through Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’, while ‘FUSE-IN’ turns its attention to neighboring South Asia, showcasing the dazzling rhythms of Hindustani music. In this series of free concerts, three will be performed by the inheritors of the traditional vocal school of Rampur-Sahaswan from Uttar Pradesh, India, including Ghulam Siraj, Mehdi Hasan, and Najmi Khan, a father and son who have settled in Hong Kong. The audience will have the opportunity to witness the charm of this singing style with a history of more than 400 years. The other three concerts will feature Shehzad Khan, a Bollywood music star from afar, playing the Indian harmonium. Together with other Indian musicians and members of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, they will create innovative programs that blend Indian, Chinese, and Western classical music traditions.
Opening hours: December 5 – December 15. Performance time and duration are subject to the site.Must Read
