Sekine Nobuo is the founder and representative artist of Mono-ha. Mono-ha art, which emerged in the 1960s, is the only Asian art school written into the history of Western modern and contemporary art. Mono-ha features the use of natural materials such as wood, stone, soil, and iron. While emphasizing the relationship between objects, it also considers space as one of the factors of works. Through simplified expression techniques, it reveals the way of existence of the natural world, thereby guiding people to re-recognize the world and expressing the perception methods of Eastern philosophy and Japanese Zen. Giving meaning to the virtual image, it pays more attention to the blankness and silence than the state of the real image and the concrete sound. Its modeling concept is to construct works based on the relationship between the two and emphasize a kind of’relationship’ through them.
