The annual ‘light and shadow show’ is about to light up the night sky of Guangzhou. At that time, tourists can not only enjoy more than 50 wonderful light works such as the 360-degree light show of Canton Tower, but also appreciate a series of light performing arts activities such as clown acrobatics. This year’s light festival takes ‘Vibrant Bay Area, New Colorful Guangzhou’ as its theme and adopts a ‘1+2’ model of one new central axis main venue and two sub-venues.
The main venue of the new central axis includes Huacheng Square, Haixinsha Asian Games Park and Canton Tower. The two sub-venues are the sub-venue on both sides of the river and the sub-venue in Huangpu District. Among them, the sub-venue on both sides of the river includes the facades of 24 buildings along Yanjiang Road, Liede Bridge, Haixin Bridge and the facade of Pazhou West District. The central stage of the sub-venue in Huangpu District is located in Science Square of Science City. This year’s light festival has collected nearly 50 sets of works by domestic and foreign designers, striving to create a global shared light and shadow visual feast. On the opening night, the dynamic light installation work in the south square of Huacheng Square will jointly present a 360-degree annular light show with Canton Tower for the first time. At that time, there will also be many Pearl River cruise ships appearing in formation and interacting with the light works in Huacheng Square. Citizens and tourists can enjoy the light and shadow performance interwoven by land and water from multiple angles on the shore or take other cruise ships to feel the charm of the Pearl River night view. The light design works of the sub-venue in Huangpu District take ‘Science and Technology Innovation Huangpu, Painting the Future with Light’ as the theme. At that time, a 360-degree lake-surrounding water dance light show will be staged in Science Square, allowing citizens and tourists to feel the technological strength of ‘Intelligent Manufacturing Huangpu’ through the performance of sound, light and electricity technology. This year’s light festival also explores the combined use of light and AI technology. A giant light and shadow immersive experience space is set up on site, covering multiple aspects such as clothing, food, housing and transportation in future cities. Through AIGC, visual art, light and shadow interaction and other methods, the audience can feel the life under the development of artificial intelligence. In addition, this light festival will also present more than 30 light performing arts shows. Tourists can not only see clown acrobatics, puppet interactions and the ‘Light Dance Messenger’ parade performance with the help of light art installations, but also appreciate multiple interactive works. On site, a water light and music stage integrating Cantonese music and light art will also be displayed, presenting a beautiful picture of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area moving forward all the way and building and sharing prosperity through creative light and shadow expression techniques. The upcoming 15th National Games has also become one of the themes of this year’s light festival. As an important display platform and communication channel for the city’s image, some light works will interact with citizens and tourists through virtual sports competitions and use lasers to convey concern and expectation for the 15th National Games.
