Yongning Stockade is located to the north of the ‘Chen Cihuang’s Former Residence’ in Qiancun, Longdu, Chenghai, Shantou City, Guangdong. It was built in the 10th year of the Yongzheng era (1732) by Chen Tingguang, an ancestor of the Chen family who once served as a Qing Dynasty cabinet scholar. This stockade covers an area of 10,333 square meters and is a massive square fortress.
Built on the low-lying area commonly referred to as ‘Dingqi’, the stockade faces northeast and is oriented towards the southwest, directly facing the distant Lianhua Mountain. It is protected by surrounding moats and ponds; the stockade’s pool in front is clear, with the reflection of the Lotus Peak, an open central hall, and the convergence of waters, making it a place of excellent traditional ‘Feng Shui’.
Yongning Ancient Stockade was declared a third batch of municipal cultural relics protection unit by the Shantou Municipal People’s Government in 2005. It is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
