Yongning Stockade is located to the north of the ‘Chen Cihuang’s Former Residence’ in Qiancun, Longdu, Chenghai, Shantou City, Guangdong. It was built by Chen Tingguang, an ancestor of the Chen family who once served as a Qing Dynasty cabinet secretary, in the 10th year of the Yongzheng era (1732). The stockade covers an area of 10,333 square meters and is a massive square fortress.
Built on the low-lying area commonly known as ‘Dingqi’, the stockade faces northeast from the southwest, directly opposite the distant Lianhua Mountain, surrounded by moats and ponds for protection. The stockade’s front pond is clear, with the inverted reflection of the Lianfeng peak, an open central hall, and the convergence of various waters, making it a place considered to have excellent traditional ‘feng shui’. Yongning Ancient Stockade was declared a third batch of municipal cultural relics protection units by the Shantou Municipal People’s Government in 2005. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
