The Ding Ding Car is an integral part of the bustling streets of Hong Kong and is the only double-decker tram in the world. It operates along the vibrant commercial centers of Hong Kong, passing through Sai Ying Pun, Sheung Wan, Central, Wan Chai, Tai Koo, Shau Kei Wan, and the Victoria Harbour waterfront. This ancient mode of transportation unique to Hong Kong Island is actually a tram, known for the ‘ding ding’ sound it makes when the driver presses the pedal, hence the name Ding Ding Car.
The tram currently runs on six partially overlapping routes connecting Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, with trams arriving at stations every 1 minute and 30 seconds on average. The six main routes are as follows: 1. Shau Kei Wan to Sheung Wan Market (special peak-hour trips from Shau Kei Wan to Kennedy Town on weekdays); 2. Shau Kei Wan to Happy Valley; 3. North Point to Stonecutters Island; 4. Happy Valley to Kennedy Town; 5. Causeway Bay to Kennedy Town; 6. Sheung Wan Market to Kennedy Town (only serves during peak hours on weekdays).
