Historically recorded, there was an ancient ferry called ‘Alligator Ferry’ located in the middle section of the Han River’s north embankment outside Chaozhou City. Before the Tang Dynasty, the area was a marshland, desolate and infested with alligators, hence the names ‘Evil Creek’, ‘Alligator Creek’, and ‘Alligator Islet’. After the Song Dynasty, the people of Chaozhou, grateful for Han Yu’s virtue, built a pavilion here to commemorate and worship him. In the 1980s, overseas Chinese built a pavilion at the original site,内设祭鳄台,题书‘鳄渡秋风’,‘祭鳄台’匾额。
