Chengyanggang Village, with its long history, numerous famous figures, and rich cultural heritage, is a well-known historical and cultural village in the Chaoshan area. Originally known as ‘Dalianggang’, it was the location of the ancient port of Fengling in Tang and Song dynasties, an important port of call on the Maritime Silk Road in the South China Sea, earning it the title of ‘the throat of Eastern Guangdong and the gateway to Chaozhou’.
Settlers had already established residence here during the Tang Dynasty, and by the end of the Tang Dynasty, a village, palace temples, ports, and docks had formed, which were crucial for the village’s external connections. By the second year of the Taiping Xingguo period in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 977), the village had developed into a certain scale. Chengyanggang Village still preserves streets from the Northern Song Dynasty, such as Yongxing Street, Shunxing Street, and Yuanxing Street, which are over a thousand years old, and their ancient appearance can still be faintly seen. The village is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
