Yue Yafen, known as the Chinese Teresa Teng, is a renowned Shanghainese singer, spokesperson for the golden oldies of Shanghai, president of the Teresa Teng Song Research Association, an envoy of Sino-American cultural exchange, an Australian-Chinese cultural exchange envoy, and a national first-class performer. Her voice is magnetic, pure, and sweet. When she performs Teresa Teng’s songs, she captures the essence of the style, tone, technique, and appearance, making her performances incredibly lifelike. Her singing often causes a sensation, with listeners feeling as if they are hearing the original voice of Teresa Teng when they close their eyes. At this concert, Yue Yafen will interpret the charm of Deng’s classic music with her delicate and ethereal voice and graceful demeanor, continuing the legacy of Teresa Teng’s musical myth.
Yue Yafen studied under several vocal masters and received meticulous guidance from the famous artist Huang Baohui during her advanced studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She not only possesses the charm of Teresa Teng but also sings in standard Mandarin, Japanese, English, Cantonese, and Minnan languages. She also integrates various singing styles and has explored the works of old Shanghai divas such as Zhou Xuan and Bai Guang. Her ‘Shanghai Night’ concert made her the best spokesperson for the golden oldies of old Shanghai in the eyes of the audience. With the support of fans and audiences, Yue Yafen invited the young writer and lyricist Chen Bing to write lyrics, launching two original Shanghai-style songs filled with the charm of the sea.
