The Qingdao Binhai University World Natural History Museum is located within Qingdao Binhai University, recognized as a National AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national science education base. It opened in March 2005, covering an area of over 14,000 square meters and housing tens of thousands of collections, making it a comprehensive exhibition hall integrating natural ecology, animals, geology, and oil paintings.
The museum consists of two buildings and is divided into three sections for visiting: the Cosmic Evolution Exhibition, the Natural Ecology Exhibition, and the Oil Painting Exhibition. The Cosmic Evolution Exhibition, which includes the Milky Way, Solar System, and Earth-Moon System, utilizes advanced technologies such as sound, light, and electricity to reveal the mysteries of the universe and trace the origins of life. The educational films playing in the three audio-visual rooms on our left provide knowledge about the universe and flora and fauna. The Natural Ecology Exhibition encompasses dozens of sections, including the American Ocean Area, African Animal Area, Butterfly Area, and Desert Area, recreating the natural living scenes of thousands of animals such as white rhinos, polar bears, African elephants, and snow wolves using simulation display techniques. The Natural Ecology Exhibition began construction in 2012 and opened to the public in 2013, boasting over 2,000 animal specimens from around the world, with more than 1,000 species.
As one of the larger world animal specimen museums in Shandong Province, the museum is referred to as the ‘encyclopedia of animal specimens.’ The Oil Painting Exhibition mainly features a collection of famous Chinese and foreign oil painting replicas, original works from abroad, and oil paintings themed around the campus culture of Qingdao Binhai University, with nearly a thousand famous paintings from renowned artists worldwide. The Oil Painting Exhibition primarily serves students by providing art appreciation and professional painting skills training. The oil paintings allow visitors to appreciate the representative works of foreign masters without leaving the country and to closely study and observe their different styles and characteristics, enhancing aesthetic knowledge and cultivating sentiments. Campus-themed oil painting creation is a recent initiative that we have been exploring and will continue to develop as a direction for the museum’s oil paintings, aiming to showcase the charm and scenery of our school’s campus.
