Introduction: Wengong Mountain, like Yuanyang Lake, is one of the scenic spots on the western line of Wuyuan. It is included in the general ticket for Wuyuan Scenic Area. Originally named ‘Nine Old Hibiscus Mountain’, it was renamed ‘Wengong Mountain’ because there is the ancestral tomb of Zhu Xi on the mountain. The forest on Wengong Mountain is lush and green. Surrounding it is a 100,000-mu broad-leaved forest sea. Some people say that ‘if you don’t visit Wengong Mountain, you haven’t been to Wuyuan’. The western line is the concentration of Wuyuan’s good ecological environment. If you are tired of seeing ancient Huizhou villages and rape flowers, going to the western line to get close to nature has a special flavor. The main scenic spots in Wengong Mountain include Jiqing Pavilion, ancient post road, Zhu Xi’s ancestral tomb, Osmanthus pond, bamboo-like pavilion, etc. The mountain is not high and it will not be too tiring to walk. Entering from the mountain gate archway at the foot of the mountain, along the mountain ridge is a thousand-year-old ancient post road built in the Song Dynasty. It was an important transportation route from Wuyuan to Raozhou in ancient times. Three kilometers of the ancient post road are well preserved. The bluestone steps go up layer by layer. There are ancient trees on both sides providing shade. There is a Huizhou-style mountain pavilion, Jiqing Pavilion, on the hillside. The door plaques on both sides are inscribed with ‘Shade for Ancestors’ and ‘Accumulate Blessings for Descendants’ respectively, which are written by Zhu Xi.

Following the signs, you can see Zhu Xi’s ancestral tomb. The tomb is facing southeast from northwest. Zhu Xi personally planted 24 fir trees around the ancestral tomb according to the Eight Diagrams pattern, which contains the meaning of twenty-four filial pieties. After more than 800 years, they have grown into giant firs. Unfortunately, only sixteen are left now. It has the reputation of ‘the group of southern fir kings in Jiangnan’.
