Tongkeng is located in the southeast of Dongcheng Town. Its pristine natural landscape, much like a girl in seclusion, remains largely unknown to many. Tongkeng boasts vast redwood forests, and in late autumn, the mountains are painted red, with the forests fully dyed, resembling a hidden Kanas in the Jiangnan region. The towering redwood trees reach for the sky, with shades of light red, dark red, and golden red interwoven, reflected in the rippling river, like a motionless beautiful painting. Hence, Tongkeng is also known as the ‘Kanas of Jiangnan’, attracting many tourists to witness the beauty of the redwood forests.
Tongkeng’s beauty lies in its nature, and its wonder is found in its rocks, caves, and waterfalls. The scenic area is filled with peculiar rocks and strange stones, resembling eagles, camels, turtles, pen racks, pen tips, swords, and ingots, all lifelike and diverse, leaving visitors dazzled. Surrounding the mountains are countless caves of varying sizes and depths, each with its own unique features. The most famous is the cave where the late Qing peasant rebel Jin Man once stationed, later known as ‘Jin Man Cave’. The legend of ‘Jin Man fighting at Tongkeng’ is well-known locally, and Tongkeng has gained fame because of it. The scenic area is open all year round, accessible 24/7.Tongkeng: The Hidden Kanas of Jiangnan
