Qi Gongci Memorial Hall is located on the southern side of Beigumen at Beigu Mountain in Linhai, backed by the ancient Great Wall, and adjacent to the City God Temple to the west. It was built to commemorate the national hero and the famous Ming Dynasty general Qi Jiguang, who organized large-scale battles against Japanese pirates in Linhai and the eastern coastal areas of Zhejiang in 1555 (the 34th year of the Jiajing era) and 1561 (the 40th year of the Jiajing era). His deeds are remembered for embodying ‘a heart dedicated to the nation, leading by example, courage in the face of adversity, and strategic foresight in dealing with enemies’. To promote the spirit of Qi Jiguang’s resistance against Japanese pirates and to carry out patriotic education, the Linhai Municipal Government funded the construction of Qi Gongci Memorial Hall. The total area of Qi Gongci Memorial Hall is 9,803 square meters, with a construction area of 2,223 square meters. The complex consists of two parts: the main courtyard and the Chinese Arms Museum. The entire structure is higher in the northwest and lower in the southeast, forming a stepped layout that is rigorous and stable, with a strong sense of hierarchy and three-dimensionality. It is divided into five major attractions: the entrance archway, the anti-Japanese scene display hall, the memorial hall, the yin-yang well, and the arms museum, forming a ‘two-axis, three-zones’ structure that includes ‘commemorative landscape axis, cultural landscape axis, commemorative area, display area, and religious area’. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the day’s opening conditions.
