Bagua Bridge in Taoshan Town is located in Taofeng Village, Taoshan Town, Rui’an, Wenzhou. It was built during the Southern Song Dynasty and spans the Taoxi River from north to south as a five-hole stone beam-column bridge. The bridge deck is slightly arched, and the bridge slabs are engraved with patterns, with varying spans for each hole.
What makes Bagua Bridge unique is that it has auxiliary piers on both sides of the main pier, locked with stone beams. This type of pier construction is very rare and serves to divert water, preventing direct flood impact on the piers, thus enhancing the bridge’s stability.
The bridge has not been dismantled or rebuilt since its construction and remains well-preserved to this day, exhibiting the typical style of Song Dynasty bridges. It is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
