Xianyuan Tower is the entrance and exit gate of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea scenic area. The two characters ‘Xianyuan’ on the plaque of the gate tower were inscribed by Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty. Legend has it that when Emperor Taizong led a large army on an eastern expedition and encountered the mirage spectacle here, he was extremely amazed and then called it ‘Xianyuan’. The two characters ‘Xianyuan’ indicate that this is a place where immortals appear and disappear. It is the birthplace of immortal culture and also a place where immortals live.
