Between the East Pond and West Pond in Cangpo Village lies the Renji Temple, which was originally constructed by the tenth ancestor, Bo Jun, during the 14th year of the Chunxi era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1187 AD). The temple has now been transformed into the Cangpo Folklore Museum. It is said that during the Yongkang period of the Western Jin Dynasty, a person named Zhou Kai sacrificed his life to fight against the floods in southern Zhejiang and was revered as the ‘King of Quelling Waters’. The ancient temple was designed according to the concept of ‘front court and rear market’ from the ‘Zhou Li’, featuring a quadrangle layout with both the gatehouse and the main hall having five bays. Surrounded by water on three sides, the temple’s central courtyard is a ‘water skywell’, reflecting the feng shui belief of using water to overcome fire. In front of the temple, there stand three cypress trees, each with a girth that requires three people to embrace, which are over 800 years old. The temple is open year-round from 8:00 to 16:30.
