Beilao Island is located in the southeast of Xiapu County, approximately 36 kilometers southwest of Da’ao and about 19 kilometers from the nearest point on the mainland. It is the main island of the Siliaos and is situated to the north, hence the name. The island is roughly rectangular, stretching 2.52 kilometers from east to west and 0.67 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of around 1.88 square kilometers. Composed of granite, it has steep southern slopes and gentle northern slopes, with the highest point, Damu Mountain, reaching an elevation of 140.2 meters. It features a rocky coastline with many bays and a coastline length of 8.48 kilometers. The surrounding waters have depths ranging from 11 to 23 meters.


Beilao Island experiences a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 17.7 degrees Celsius, an average January temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius, and an average July temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. The annual precipitation is 1133.7 millimeters, and the typhoon season spans from June to September, with an average of about 100 days of strong winds per year. The island is home to three natural villages with a population of 2,392 people, who primarily reside along the coastal foothills and engage in fishing and agriculture. There are 147 acres of arable land, mainly used for growing sweet potatoes. Beilao Island is an important fishing production base for the county. The surrounding waters are rich in yellow croaker, hairtail, pomfret, eel, and particularly known for grouper and scallops. A navigation light is located atop Damu Mountain.


This island, acclaimed as the ‘Fourth Pole of the Earth’ by outsiders, has never been commercially developed and retains intact military relics facing Taiwan, showcasing the enchanting scenery of the East China Sea and presenting a rich and simple fishing village culture. The island is open to visitors all year round, with full-day access.
