To fully exhibit Guangzhou’s river culture within limited space, the Dong Hao Chong Museum makes extensive use of modern audio-visual technology to restore and display the prosperity of trade and humanities along the riverbanks, recreating the historical charm and folk culture of the riverside during the Song Dynasty, leaving a profound impression on visitors. The museum, housed in a two-story building, is divided into five exhibition halls.
Hall One, ‘Origins of Dong Hao,’ showcases how the crisscrossing rivers nourish the city of Guangzhou, influencing its development over the past two thousand years; Hall Two, ‘Dong Hao Trade,’ unfolds a picture of the trade and folk customs on both banks of the Dong Hao River, allowing visitors to savor the former prosperity and romance; Hall Three, ‘Dong Hao Dreams,’ recreates the beautiful moments of the Dan family girls humming saltwater songs while selling fruits on boats along the river; Hall Four, ‘Dong Hao’s Tears,’ displays the polluted rivers with sludge, black water, and garbage; Hall Five, ‘New Chapter of Dong Hao,’ presents the achievements of water treatment in Dong Hao Chong, with the beautiful scenery re-emerging to invigorate the spirit.
