Nanfang Theater is located in the bustling Beijing Road commercial area of Guangzhou City, at the intersection of Education Road and West Lake Road. It is just 200 meters north of Gongyuanqian Subway Station, with convenient public transportation nearby.
Originally built in 1937, Nanfang Theater has undergone multiple renovations and transformations, constantly renewing its appearance and remaining an important base for Cantonese opera performances.

The theater boasts an elegant environment and luxurious decoration, equipped with air conditioning and fire sprinkler systems. After a renovation and decoration in 2009, it now has 618 seats (406 in the orchestra and 212 in the balcony). The stage is spacious with excellent sound and lighting effects.


It is capable of hosting a variety of performances, including Cantonese opera, drama, musicals, stage plays, fairy tales, puppet shows, song and dance, acrobatics, and ballet, as well as accommodating large conferences.


Inside the theater, there is an integrated heritage site from the Five Dynasties Southern Han Dynasty, ‘Jiu Yao Yuan’, which is a protected cultural relic site in Guangdong Province. The garden features nine thousand-year-old meteorites and is adorned with inscriptions and steles by scholars and literati of past dynasties. The pond’s edge is graced with swaying green bamboo and willows, providing a beautiful garden for audiences and tourists to rest and enjoy themselves.


The theater is open year-round from 10:00 to 21:00.
