Guangzhou University City is located in Xiaoguwei Island and the south bank area of Xinzao Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou. It is adjacent to Luoxi Island in the west, Biological Island in the north, and Changzhou Island in the east. It faces Pazhou Island and Yingzhou Ecological Park across the river. It is about 17 kilometers away from the center of Guangzhou and about 17 kilometers away from the planned Guangzhou New Town.
It is located on the southward expansion axis and in the metropolitan area of Guangzhou. Surrounding it are modern historical sites and cultural heritages represented by Huangpu Military Academy; traditional and modern Lingnan garden cultures represented by Yuyin Mountain House and Baomo Garden; modern urban cultures marked by Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center and Guangzhou Biological Island. The overall planning area of Guangzhou University City is 43.3 square kilometers, and the planned total population is 350,000 to 400,000 people. Based on the principle of hierarchical sharing of resources, the spatial structure is city-group-campus. The recently constructed Xiaoguwei Island of Guangzhou University City is about 17.9 square kilometers and is divided into five campus groups. Each group is composed of teaching areas, living areas, resource sharing areas, and group public green spaces. It will be home to 10 universities including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. There are about 140,000 students in total. It is the center for talent training, scientific research and exchanges in South China. It is a new urban area with integrated development of learning, research and production. The external traffic arteries of Guangzhou University City (Xiaoguwei Island) mainly include the north-south arterial road and the central expressway in the middle of Xiaoguwei. The internal traffic presents a circular radial network. The main roads are the outer ring, middle ring, inner ring and connecting radial lines. The design red line width of the main road is 60 meters, and the design red line width of the secondary road is 40 meters.
