The China Geological Museum was established in 1916. It is the earliest public natural science museum established in China. Renowned for its long history, large collection, high proportion of treasures, exquisite displays, and fruitful scientific research achievements, it has become a relatively large museum in Asia. The museum is arranged according to the structure of the earth’s spheres and has five basic exhibition halls, including the Earth Hall, Mineral and Rock Hall, Gem Hall, Prehistoric Biology Hall, and Land and Resources Hall.


There are also two temporary exhibition halls that track hot issues in geoscience and update exhibition contents at any time. The museum’s collection includes 200,000 specimens. Exhibits include the world-famous giant Shandong dragon, dinosaur series fossils such as Sinornithosaurus, as well as famous fossil specimens of ancient humans such as Peking Man, Yuanmou Man, and Upper Cave Man. There are also a large number of precious prehistoric biological fossils such as fish, birds, and insects.


Here, there is also the world’s largest ‘Crystal King’, a giant fluorite calcite crystal cluster specimen, exquisite Chinese characteristic mineral specimens such as azurite, cinnabar, realgar, orpiment, scheelite, and stibnite, as well as a large number of national treasure-level treasures such as various gems and jades. Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, from 09:00 to 16:30; closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 16:30 on Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.
