Zhengyang Gate, originally known as Lizheng Gate, was first constructed in the 17th year of the Yongle reign during the Ming Dynasty. It is also referred to as the ‘Front Gate’ due to its location directly in front of the Forbidden City. As one of the ‘Nine Gates of the Capital’ in old Beijing, locals affectionately call it the ‘Front Gate Tower’. It remains one of the well-preserved old city gates in Beijing.
Comprising three parts: the city tower, the arrow tower, and the barbican, the barbican has been demolished, leaving the city tower and arrow tower on opposite sides of Qianmen Street. Climbing to the top of the city tower, one can explore various exhibition halls to learn about the history and local customs of Beijing. The Zhengyang Gate Arrow Tower is one of the taller arrow towers in Beijing. The city gate under the tower used to be off-limits to ordinary people, but now visitors can pass through it to Qianmen Street. It is open to the public from 09:00 to 16:00 all year round, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.Zhengyang Gate
