‘Wotou Hui Guan,’ a play set one year before the liberation of Beiping, now known as Beijing, unfolds within a small Siheyuan of the same name. This intimate setting is home to several households from the lower strata of society, each with their own distinct backgrounds. Among them, you’ll find individuals obsessed with money, those with sharp tongues, and others who are quick-tempered and petty-minded.
In the darkest hour before dawn, these ordinary people navigate their absurdly difficult lives with laughter, anger, and sharp wit. The play captures the essence of old Beijing, painting a vivid picture of life’s absurdity before the dawn. It is a poignant portrayal of the sounds and struggles of the time.
The show is scheduled to run from October 23rd to October 27th, with a total duration of 180 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
