The Yantai Branch of the China Geological Museum, also known as the Yantai Natural History Museum, is a thematic museum primarily focused on mineral resources with a special emphasis on gold, where natural science and humanities artfully coexist. The main structure of the museum is inspired by the shape of ocean waves crashing against rocks.

The museum houses a rich collection with a comprehensive range of categories and a concentration of high-quality exhibits. It features 14 halls and galleries, including a thematic lobby, Earth Hall, Fossil Hall, Mineral Hall, Gold Hall, Biology Hall, Ornamental Stone Pavilion, Wang Yirong (the Father of Oracle Bone Script) Pavilion, Art Gallery, Inside Painting Pavilion, Ancient Coin Pavilion, and Root Carving Pavilion. Notable exhibits include natural gold and a giant Shandong dragon fossil, both of which are considered national treasures. The museum also includes a 4D cinema, exploration corner, lecture hall, and a specialized gemstone appraisal room.

In the outdoor square, a 48-meter-long Xinjiang silicified wood fossil is displayed, and among the green trees and lawns, the museum’s logo sculpture, the ‘Gate of Nature’ theme sculpture, valuable giant rosewood, ornamental stone forest, ancient tree forest, and silicified wood forest create an interesting contrast. Wang Yirong’s poetry is vividly portrayed here.

The Yantai Natural History Museum integrates three major functions: exhibition display, scientific research, and collection management. It boasts comprehensive exhibition facilities, advanced scientific equipment, a rich collection of specimens, and a high-quality team of professionals. The museum can conduct multidisciplinary and multi-level scientific research, publicity, and educational work, making it a comprehensive modern museum. It is currently one of the largest natural history museums in China with high-quality specimens and broad content coverage. The museum displays tens of thousands of specimens, making it a scientific education base and cultural window for Yantai. The 14 halls and galleries not only systematically display exhibits but also have local characteristics, with strong scientific education value, high ornamental value, and many treasures.
