Located 25 kilometers south of Lu’an City, Wanxi Grand Canyon, originally known as Biwang Rock, is said to be named after the peasant rebel leader Zhang Xianzhong who fought here during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Locals refer to it as ‘Three Gorges Dam’, and the entire scenic area resembles three sections of lotus roots, which is very popular. The popular activity is to traverse and climb through the canyon, with steep cliffs on both sides, narrow passages only allowing one person to pass through at a time. In some places, there are simply vertical iron ladders to climb, which is quite challenging. In other areas, one must step on the cliffs for leverage, and there are occasional waterfalls falling from the cliff tops. Although the canyon is not long, the joy of climbing is abundant. Each dam of the Three Gorges Dam has different scenery; the first dam has steep cliffs on the north and south, with a valley bottom that is barely wide enough for one foot. Exiting the first dam, there is a huge stone cave ‘Cave King Palace’ on the south cliff; the second dam is even narrower and more precipitous than the first, with cliffs forming a ‘slit in the sky’, where only a few rays of sunlight penetrate the valley floor, and there is a waterfall about 50 meters high inside the dam; the third dam is three stories high and requires climbing with both hands and feet. In addition, the scenic area includes attractions such as the King’s Well and the Heroic Rock (Command Platform). The Three Gorges Dam belongs to the Grand Canyon, which is the experience area, requiring walking through narrow rock crevices and climbing. After passing through the Grand Canyon, one can reach the top of the mountain for a view and then return via another good mountain road. There are many tourists visiting the scenic area on holidays, which is more embarrassing than the congestion of ordinary attractions. Imagine a large crowd stuck in the slit in the sky, unable to move in any direction, so it is recommended to visit on weekdays. Because climbing in the Grand Canyon requires some physical strength, children under 1.2 meters and the elderly over 70 years old are not allowed to take the Grand Canyon path (experience area).
