Qianjiangyuan National Forest Park is located within Kaihua County, at the junction of Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi provinces. It is the true source of Zhejiang’s mother river, the Qiantang River, featuring lush valleys, clear mountain streams, and waterfalls. However, due to inconvenient transportation, it receives few visitors. For those seeking to immerse in nature, escape the summer heat, avoid holiday crowds, or trace the origins, Qianjiangyuan is an excellent choice.
Visitors to Qianjiangyuan typically focus on the source scenic area, which includes the Grand Canyon and the Lotus Pond. Upon entering the scenic area, the first thing that catches the eye is the stone tablet of Qianjiangyuan Grand Canyon, a perfect spot for photos. The Grand Canyon scenic area mainly involves walking along trails to admire the Jikeng Waterfall (Divine Dragon Waterfall) with a drop of 130 meters. Walking above the plank road allows for an overview of the waterfall, which is spectacular. A few minutes’ drive from the exit leads to the Lotus Pond, which concentrates the key attractions of the scenic area and is the more laborious part of the walk. Walking on the verdant steps in the mountains, accompanied by the sound of streams, one can see the ‘Qianjiangyuan’ stone tablet by the roadside halfway up. As you ascend, the sound of water diminishes, indicating proximity to the water source. It is hard to imagine that the magnificent Qiantang River tides begin with this small stream. Along the way, you will pass by attractions such as ‘Source Well Waterfall’ and ‘Reclining Cow Listening to Scriptures’. Near the suspension bridge, there is a fork in the road; turn right to reach the marker of the three provinces’ border, and turn left for the Lotus Pond. Walking towards the Lotus Pond, you will soon see the emerald green waters of the pond. The latter part of the tour is a downhill path, passing through a rather lush forest, which might be an exaggeration to call a ‘negative ion breathing area’. However, after such a long mountain walk, taking deep breaths of the fresh forest air is indeed refreshing. Opening hours are from 8:00 to 16:00 all year round.
