Gandong Film and Television City: A Glimpse of Old Shenyang

Gandong Film and Television City is located in the Qipanshan International Scenic and Tourism Development Zone, northeast of Shenyang city, on the southeast bank of Xiu Lake. It covers an area of 280,000 square meters and is composed of 7 distinct areas, featuring 177 various buildings. By showcasing the ‘folk culture’ of old Shenyang from the last century, it recreates the unique Guandong charm of Shenyang city from the 1920s and 1930s.

The city serves three main functions: film shooting, leisure entertainment, and cultural education, acting as a record of the architecture and culture of old Shenyang from the last century.
Most buildings in Gandong Film and Television City are single or two-story brick and wood structures, with a few being three-story buildings. The restored ancient buildings are mostly operational shops, reflecting Chinese, Western, and Sino-Western architectural styles.

The city emulates the appearance of old Shenyang’s streets, enclosed by an 8-meter-high ancient city wall, forming an ancient city-style architectural complex that includes tea houses, hotels, inns, and theaters from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China.
This place not only reconstructs the spiritual home of the old Shenyang people but also serves as a vivid textbook for contemporary people to understand the old Bei Shi and old Shenyang.
