Xiyuan Garden is located on Tangcun Street in Wuyuan County. It leans on Jinping Mountain on the left and is beside Xingjiang River on the right. It is a wonderful Jiangnan garden. Xiyuan Garden integrates human history and natural landscapes. It is composed of scenic spots such as Queli Memorial Archway, Yingui Bridge, Zunjing Pavilion, Zhu Family Village, Ziyang Academy, Thatched Cottage, and Zhufeitang. Inside the park, there are mountains surrounded by water, lush flowers and trees, winding corridors, reflected pavilions, and different sceneries with every step, which is pleasing to the eye and the heart. ‘A spoonful represents water, and a fist represents a mountain.’ In Xiyuan Garden, you can enjoy the ‘pleasure of mountains, waters, forests and springs’ of nature. You can ‘obtain the joy of mountains and forests without leaving the city wall and have the pleasure of forests and springs while living in a busy city.’ Xiyuan Garden is a ‘literati freehand landscape garden’ with profound cultural connotations. It is the residence of Zhu Tingjun, the second ancestor of Zhu Xi, and Zhu Zhaoyuan, the third ancestor. Zhu Xi returned home twice and came here to visit relatives and worship ancestors. There are still many old sites of the Zhu family and relics of Zhu Xi. Ancient and famous trees such as camphor trees, osmanthus trees, and castanopsis trees that have survived for hundreds of years are still lush and full of vitality. These buildings, landscapes, and flowers and trees full of scholarly atmosphere are naturally and harmoniously blended together, so that every mountain, every water, every grass and every tree in the garden can produce a profound artistic conception.
