The predecessor of Beijing Film Academy was the Performance Art Research Institute of the Central Film Bureau, established in 1950. It was renamed Beijing Film School in 1953 and restructured into Beijing Film Academy in 1956. According to the official website information in February 2019, the main campus of Beijing Film Academy covers an area of 105 acres; the Huai Rou campus (under construction) spans 667 acres. The academy is temporarily not open to non-students, and the specific operating status is subject to the daily opening conditions.
