Quyuanfenghe is located on the west side of West Lake and in front of Yuewang Temple. It is a famous place to enjoy lotus flowers in Hangzhou. According to legend, in the Southern Song Dynasty, there was a workshop for official brewing by the Hongchun Bridge. There were many lotus flowers on the ponds around the workshop. Every summer, when a light breeze blows, the fragrance of lotus flowers is mixed with the aroma of wine, refreshing. Thus, ‘Quyuanfenghe’ got its name. Location information: Nowadays, ‘Quyuanfenghe’ is located in the southeast of the intersection of Beishan Street and Yanggong Causeway. It is a park along the West Lake and is connected with surrounding scenic spots such as Yuewang Temple, Guozhuang Garden, and Hangzhou Botanical Garden, forming the main tourist area on the north line of West Lake. The main entrance of the park is opposite Yuewang Temple. In addition, there is also an entrance near Yadi Bridge at the northern end of Su Causeway. It is recommended to directly take a vehicle to enter the park through the main entrance. The entrance by the side of Su Causeway is relatively hidden and can be easily missed. Highlights: The major highlight of Quyuanfenghe is naturally the lotus flowers in summer. There are hundreds of kinds of lotus flowers planted in the large and small lotus ponds in the park. Especially in the Fenghe area, it concentrates the fine varieties of lotus flowers, such as red lotus, Xuan lotus, white lotus, double-petal lotus, sprinkled gold lotus, twin lotus, and so on. Walking on the winding bridge on the lake is like walking in the middle of a lotus pond, so beautiful that people are intoxicated. The park has good greenery. It is especially shady under the big trees. Sitting on a bench and enjoying the beautiful scenery of West Lake, people can’t help but murmur: ‘The lotus leaves in the sky are boundlessly green, and the lotus flowers in the sunlight are extraordinarily red.’ To enjoy lotus flowers in Quyuanfenghe, June and July every year are the best times. The lotus flowers from 6:00 to 8:00 in the morning are with dew and rather shy. This is also a good time for taking pictures. If you come here in other seasons, you can only see the rippling blue water. Without lotus flowers, the scenery is much less impressive. However, simply coming for a walk is also not bad. In the Yuehu scenic area on the east side of the park, the stele of ‘Quyuanfenghe’ inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty is preserved. There are some antique restaurants on the north side of the park, and the taste is also good. Opening hours: Open all day all year round. Must-see tips: There are many restaurants near the bronze statue of Yue Fei between Quyuanfenghe and Yuewang Temple, where you can solve the problem of eating.
