Among the numerous temple fairs in the old capital, only the Changdian Temple Fair, not named after a temple, is held only once a year during the Spring Festival, yet it is one of the largest, most authentic, and most famous. The fair continued to be held until the early 1960s, remaining bustling and lively, but unfortunately, it ceased to exist for 37 years. Currently, the Changdian Temple Fair is mainly held in the areas of Liulichang and Taoranting Park.

As one of the eight major temple fairs in the history of Beijing, it is now one of the largest, most influential, and most renowned among them. The Changdian Temple Fair is also known as one of the four major temple fairs in China, alongside the Shanghai City God Temple and the Qingyang Palace in Chengdu. Even during its more depressed periods, the daily visitor count could reach one-fifth of the city’s permanent population.

It is almost unheard of for an old Beijinger not to have visited the Changdian Temple Fair. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the day’s opening conditions.
