The Yangzhou Ancient Canal refers to the river section from Zhuyuwan Scenic Area to Gaomin Temple. The main area for tourists to visit is concentrated from the South Gate Wharf to the Bianyimen Square Wharf in the urban area of Yangzhou. Along this section, there are famous scenic spots such as the Dongguan Street historical block. You can visit on foot or by boat. At night, the lights are on along the canal and the night view is very beautiful.


If you want to visit on foot, it is recommended to walk from He Garden to Dongguan Street. There are not many scenic spots on the sections from South Gate Wharf – He Garden and Dongguan Street – Bianyimen Square Wharf. Starting from He Garden not by the canal, walking south to Kangshan Street, then heading east to visit the Lu’s salt merchant’s residence and the adjacent Salt Ancestral Temple. Continuing eastward, you will reach Nantong East Road by the canal.


Then, turn north along Nantong East Road and visit along the west bank of the canal. There are good green belts along the canal. The green willows brush the water, just like the scenery of Jiangnan described in ancient poems. When you reach Wu Daotai’s Mansion, you can enter and visit. After visiting, continue to walk north along the canal. Cross the Jiefang Bridge on Wenchang Middle Road to the east bank of the canal.


There is the ancient tomb garden of Arabs, Puha Ding Garden. Then return to the west bank of the canal and continue northward. Seeing the archway of Dongguan Ancient Ferry means that you have arrived at the Dongguan Street historical block. Walk westward into the city gate and step on the Dongguan Street paved with stone slabs. There are many shops and Yangzhou特色 restaurants on the street. There are scenic spots such as Geyuan Garden.


Dongguan Street can be visited together with the Dongquanmen historical block 300 meters to the south. The cruise ships on the ancient canal sail from Bianyimen Square Wharf to South Gate Wharf or vice versa. You can board the ship from both docks. The ticket price is 60 yuan.
