Wuxi Film and Television Base, a subsidiary of China Central Television Media Co., Ltd. (Stock Code: CCTV Media 600088), was established in 1987 and covers an area of approximately 1200 acres with usable water areas of about 3000 acres. The Three Kingdoms and Water Margin scenic areas, built for the filming of historical masterpieces ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ and ‘Water Margin’, are among the earliest cultural, film, and tourism integrated theme scenic areas in China, and are also among the first batch of national AAAAA-level tourist attractions.
With its superior geographical location overlooking the vast Taihu Lake and backed by the lush green Junshan Mountain, the scenic area boasts enchanting natural scenery and fully enjoys the spirit and elegance of Taihu Lake. The buildings within the scenic area are grand, simple, and well-arranged, with main attractions including the Palace of Wu King, Peach Garden, Ganlu Temple, Cao Ying’s Water Camp, Zishi Street, Qingming Shanghe Street, Song Imperial Palace, and Liangshan Assembly Hall, among others.
The spectacular performances are a highlight of the scenic area. The large-scale horse battle performance ‘Three Heroes Fight against Lü Bu’ recreates the war scenes of the Three Kingdoms period with golden spears and iron horses, and the grand performance and shocking horsefighting performances have won the hearts of countless audiences. The film stunt performance ‘Fight against Ximen Qing’ recreates the exciting story of Wu Song avenging his brother and fighting against Ximen Qing, revealing the secrets of special effects commonly used in film and television shooting, such as flying people, aerial combat, burning people, and pyrotechnic explosions, which are all displayed in the program.
The scenic area offers a rich variety of participatory projects. Activities such as taking an ancient boat tour of Taihu Lake, Zhuge’s repeating crossbow, the Bagua Array, and the Navy Training Camp are full of fun and make people linger and forget to return.
