Century Park is located at the southeast end of Century Avenue in Pudong, and is one of the larger natural ecological parks within the urban area of Shanghai. The park is divided into several areas including the local pastoral area, lakeside area, sparse forest lawn area, bird protection area, and exotic garden area, all of which boast a healthy ecological environment, making it an ideal place for relaxation and leisure in the city.
The park features the Mirror Sky Lake, a large artificial lake in the Shanghai area, which is approximately circular with a diameter of about 300 meters. Additionally, the Zhangjiabang River runs through the park, creating a network of waterways within the park’s ecological environment. When a breeze blows, one can stand on the Cloud Sail Bridge by the water or on the viewing platform to experience the rare sight of rippling waves in the city.
The park offers fishing and boat rides by the lake, providing an entertaining option for visitors. The bird protection area is home to dozens of bird species, and the park also has dozens of specially trained grey magpies that chirp and play among the trees and waters, adding a touch of wild interest.
There are many areas and attractions in the park themed around vegetation. The Oriental Rainbow Pearl Bonsai Garden in the northeast has over 160 distinctive bonsai trees with high ornamental value. The sparse forest area has been developed into four gardens for spring, summer, autumn, and winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful seasonal flowers throughout the year.
A representative attraction is the Century Flower Clock in the northern part of Mirror Sky Lake, which is a landmark within the park. The flower clock is surrounded by blooming flowers, with hornbeam as the time scale, and the center of the clock face is adorned with yellow flowers, creating a colorful and vibrant display. Moreover, the flower clock is not just for decoration; it has a real timekeeping function controlled by satellite instruments with an error margin of less than 0.03 seconds, which is quite amazing.
Among these gardens and vegetation, there are several shapes made from plants such as the green maze, plant camels, and plant peacocks, as well as distinctive sculptures like the Green World and Olmec ethnic carvings. These sculptures are scattered throughout the green jungle, creating a tranquil and peaceful natural ecological environment that starkly contrasts with the bustling city surroundings, making the park even more vibrant.
The northern part of the park is Century Park Amusement Park, which offers various children’s amusement rides such as bumper cars, sky walks, and rafting boats, making it a paradise for children. The southern part of the amusement park features the Lawn Pigeon attraction, where buying a bag of pigeon feed and interacting with the pigeons is also an interesting activity. To the west of the amusement park is the Musical Fountain Scenic Area, which has 208 nozzles and over six hundred colored lights, allowing visitors to witness the spectacle of water columns dancing to music, exuding elegance and romance.
