The Shanghai Zoo is home to over six hundred species of animals, including amphibians and reptiles, herbivores, predators, and birds of prey. The zoo features various animal exhibits as well as educational facilities such as the Science and Education Pavilion, the Goldfish Gallery, and the Butterfly Pavilion. It also boasts a reed-filled Swan Lake, which is home to pelicans, swans, and mandarin ducks, among other bird species. The entire park is lush with flowers and foliage, and offers an elegant environment with a small river running through it. Enjoying the sun on the large lawn, boating, and riding the Ferris wheel are also great options for visitors.
Opening hours are from March 1st to October 31st, 08:00 to 18:30; and from November 1st to February 28th, 08:00 to 18:00.
Preferential policies include free admission for seniors aged 65 and above with valid ID or age proof documents; a 10% discount for those aged 60 to 64 with valid ID or age proof documents. For children, free admission is granted to those under 1.3 meters in height or aged six and below, accompanied by an adult with a full-price ticket; a 50% discount for those aged between six and 18 with age proof documents. Disabled individuals enter free with a disability certificate; active and disabled military personnel enter free with an officer’s ID; retired military personnel enter free with a retirement certificate. Full-time students (excluding adult education and graduate students) receive a 50% discount with a student ID. Families of martyrs, families of military personnel who died in service, and families of deceased military personnel enter free with a preferential certificate. Families of active military personnel enter free with a military family certificate issued by the army. Active, retired, and disabled firefighters (including full-time government firefighters) and students from fire rescue academies enter free with valid documents. Veterans receive a 20% discount on tickets with valid documents. Serving police officers with a valid ‘People’s Police Certificate’ enter free.

Mobile phone charging is available at the Visitor Service Center. Luggage storage is also available at the site with prices subject to change; located at the self-storage lockers in the park. Transportation within the park is available for 15 yuan per person; located at the main entrance. Stroller rental is available for 20 yuan per day; located to the right of the main entrance after entering the park. Wheelchair rental is available with a deposit of 400 yuan per day; located at the Visitor Service Center. There are eight restrooms within the park, clearly marked and scattered in different corners. Nursing rooms are located at the Visitor Service Center. Dining options are available at several restaurants within the scenic area.
