Suzhou Folk Museum

Folklore represents the customs and habits formed by the people over a long period of production and life. It is the crystallization of the people’s wisdom and a precious cultural heritage. With a history of more than 2,500 years since its establishment, Suzhou has developed distinctive Wu-style customs. The Suzhou Folk Museum, which officially opened to the public in November 1986 to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of Suzhou’s establishment, is a showcase of Suzhou’s folklore and a professional museum in China that focuses on displaying urban folklore.


Currently, the museum exhibits folk artifacts and knowledge around seasonal customs, auspicious customs, and child-rearing customs to enrich cultural life and enhance understanding of Suzhou’s traditional folk culture among friends from all regions and international visitors. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; the museum is closed all day on Monday; on New Year’s Eve, it opens from 09:00 to 16:00; during the Spring Festival and Qingming Festival, it opens from 09:00 to 17:00; and on the Dragon Boat Festival, it opens from 09:00 to 17:00.


Specific business status is subject to the actual opening conditions on the day. Notable tip: The museum is in close proximity to the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Lion Grove Garden, Suzhou Museum, and Suzhou Garden Museum, and can be visited together.
