The Dezhou Ancient Canal Scenic Area, centered around the Canal Culture Plaza and the main axis of ‘one river and two belts’, presents an overall layout of ‘one vertical and one horizontal with six districts’.
The plaza’s theme focuses on reflecting the canal transportation culture of Dezhou, with main structures including the Jiu Da Tian Qu Arch, symbolizing Dezhou’s transportation hub status, the Canal Li, representing Dezhou’s history, the Nine Dragon Water Spouting Columns, representing the canal’s trend, as well as docks, ancient ships, and other small sculptures.
The shape and layout of the Canal Culture Plaza are primarily square and symmetrical, with planning and design mainly reflecting the plaza’s solemn and substantial feel. The central theme sculpture, Li, symbolizes the splendid and ancient historical culture of Dezhou. The spacious square surrounding the sculpture provides a venue for leisure, tourism, entertainment, and gatherings, while also displaying the grand momentum of the plaza.
The plaza is designed with tree-lined squares on both sides, and the green spaces at the corners of the square offer a pleasant leisure space for visitors. The water-facing grand steps on one side of the canal open towards the water surface, combining with the canal docks, not only connecting the canal waterway tourism and sightseeing but also providing a venue for audiences to watch water performances.
Plans are in place to design and build a three-door, four-column archway building filled with cultural atmosphere on the plaza, which will play a finishing touch role for the entire square. Additionally, features such as the Nine Dragon Water Spouting Columns, masts, entrance stone archways, docks, and canal transportation sculptures are included to enhance the canal cultural atmosphere. By using the canal-dock-plaza spatial shape as a carrier, the area aims to create a new cultural and tourism attraction for Dezhou.
