Anyang Museum is located in the center of Anyang City and shares a building with Anyang Library. The permanent exhibitions of the museum are on the second and third floors of the building. Although the museum is not large, since Anyang is the ancient capital of the Shang Dynasty with a long history and numerous cultural relics, the collections in the museum are also very characteristic and worth seeing.
When visiting the Anyang Museum, the bronze ware on the second floor and the ceramics on the third floor are the key points of your visit. Here you can view bronze wares such as the beast-faced pattern bronze jia, the string-patterned bronze yan, the ‘Dan’ bronze you, and the ‘Father Yi Chequ’ bronze gu of the Shang Dynasty. At the same time, on the second floor, you can also view the ‘jade ge’ of the Shang Dynasty. The ge is an important physical material for studying ancient Chinese rituals. The ge exhibited in Anyang Museum is huge in size and is a treasure among jade wares of the Shang Dynasty, which is relatively rare among jade wares of the Yin and Shang Dynasties. The ceramics on the third floor are mainly cultural relics of the Qing Dynasty. You can view excellent pieces of porcelain from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, such as the ‘Qianlong powder-blue glazed vase with ring handles’. It has a dignified and elegant shape and bright glaze color. The ‘powder enamel vase with one hundred deer’ has a six-character borderless line of blue and white on the bottom, which reads ‘Made in the Qianlong period of the Great Qing Dynasty’ in running script. But this cultural relic is an excellent imitation of Qianlong porcelain during the Guangxu period. There is also a typical work of blue and white porcelain from the Kangxi period, the ‘blue and white phoenix-tailed vase with figure story pattern’. The whole body is covered with white glaze, and there are blue and white figure story patterns on the abdomen and neck. There is a double circle of blue and white on the bottom. In addition, when visiting the museum, you can also enjoy a number of paintings and calligraphy from the Qing Dynasty and the ‘Exhibition of Woodblock Prints in Anyang Area’. The woodblock New Year pictures in Anyang Area mostly take gods, genealogy, landscapes, flowers and birds, architecture, opera stories, etc. as the expression contents, and take central scrolls, wall paintings, door stickers, and fan surfaces, playing cards, lantern paintings, etc. for people’s daily use as the expression forms. It is a unique folk cultural heritage in Anyang Area. The museum is in front of the municipal government. Sometimes at night, there will be a music fountain show on the square between the two buildings.Opening hours: Open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Thursday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 18:00 from Friday to Sunday throughout the year; closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 20:00 on Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and National Day.
