The Yanzhou City Museum boasts an extensive collection of over 3500 cultural relics spanning from the Dawenkou Culture to the Ming and Qing dynasties, including precious artifacts unearthed at the base of Xinglong Tower. The museum is oriented along a north-south axis. The northern part is the Xinglong Tower scenic area. The central part is the exhibition hall, which features a facade modeled after the Han Dynasty’s阙and a large sloped roof, exuding grandeur, simplicity, and elegance, harmoniously integrated with the Xinglong Tower.
The second floor has five exhibition halls: the Dawn of Civilization Hall, the Cultural Relics Boutique Hall, the World’s Number One Sword Hall, the Li Di Root Art Hall, and the Celebrity Calligraphy and Painting Hall. The Dawn of Civilization Hall displays more than 300 prehistoric cultural relics excavated in the Yanzhou area, including the Wangyin site, Xisusi site, and Liulijing site excavated by the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which systematically reflect the cultural development sequence of the Neolithic period in the Shandong region. The Cultural Relics Boutique Hall showcases several themes from the museum’s collection, including bronze ware, porcelain, stone carvings, and gold and jade ornaments. The World’s Number One Sword Hall features a large sword cast from pig iron, with the inscription ‘Kangxi Dingyou February, Jin Yifeng, who knew the affairs of Yanzhou Prefecture, placed it’ on the hilt. The sword is 7.5 meters long and weighs 1539. 8 kilograms, earning it the title of ‘World’s Number One Sword’. Opening hours are closed all day on Mondays and open from 08:30 to 11:30 and 14:00 to 16:30 from Tuesdays to Sundays.
