Xue Ye Lake Scenic Area is located 25 kilometers north of Laiwu City, originally known as Xue Ye Reservoir, completed in 1985, and is one of the large reservoirs in Shandong Province, covering an area of about 14 square kilometers of water surface.
Surrounded by mountains on three sides, Xue Ye Lake boasts a beautiful landscape of lakes and mountains. The Ma’an Mountain to the east of the lake and the Xuan Yang Diao Gu Mountain to the west have been preliminarily developed. The lake’s water is very suitable for breeding various freshwater fish and fishing.
Therefore, in addition to attracting a large number of tourists from Jinan, Zibo, and other places every year, the Shandong Fishing Association has held three consecutive fishing competitions here. In the summer of 1997, the 13th National Fishing Competition was also held here.
Xue Ye Lake has convenient transportation, with two major traffic arteries passing along the lake, which are the necessary routes for travel between Laiwu and Jinan. As a result, the roadside economy in the lake area is active, with more than 30 hotels and restaurants built. The local specialty ‘Xue Ye Fish Head’ has a strong appeal to tourists.
Leisure activities on the lake mainly focus on sightseeing by boat, with more than 30 types of boats available. A small island in the lake, Wen Chang Ridge, is currently under tourism development. The globally renowned planning consulting company – the American EDAW Company – has been hired to carry out the conceptual planning for the Xue Ye Tourism Area. The overall development positioning of the Xue Ye Tourism Area is: Shandong Lakeside Leisure Resort Center, a base for mountain and water sports, conferences, and health retreats.
The long-term development goal is to become a well-known compound experience-type and ecological leisure resort tourism and business tourism destination in China, and a well-known leisure resort destination in the Northeast Asia region. The entire area is divided into two major sections: Fang Gan Ecological Scenic Area and Xue Ye Lake Leisure Resort Area. The planned control area of Xue Ye Lake Leisure Resort Area is 130 square kilometers, the core scenic area is 60 square kilometers, and the total development area is 18 square kilometers, divided into seven areas, namely Lu Zu Spring Historical Corridor, Xue Ye North Shore New Town, Eastern Golf Community, Water Sports Center, South Shore Orchard Community, Left Bank Water City, and Ma’an Mountain Forest Park.
Adhering to the principles of ‘health, harmony, and happiness’, relying on the southern line of the Jining-Qingdao Expressway, facing Jinan and surrounding cities, it will leverage its unique advantages of lake and mountain scenery to create a large, lively, and beautiful landscape. Constructing a ‘Happiness Continent’ in the style of the Mediterranean, integrating leisure and vacation, tourism and sightseeing, conferences and exhibitions, and sports projects.
