Located in the central area of Kaifeng and to the northeast of Bao Gong Lake, Yanqing Taoist Temple was once one of the largest Taoist temples in Kaifeng. Originally constructed in the fifth year of Emperor Taizong of the Yuan Dynasty (1233 AD), it was initially named Chongyang Temple in honor of Wang Zhe, the founder of the Quanzhen School of Taoism. The main structure within the temple is the Yuhuang Pavilion, a three-story brick building approximately 16 meters high, featuring a wooden-style imitation construction. The pavilion’s roof is designed with a yurt-style architectural feature, which is ingeniously conceived and uniquely shaped. On the top level, within the octagonal pavilion, a statue of the Jade Emperor is enshrined.
