The Weishan Island Scenic Area is located in the southeast of Weishan Lake. It covers an area of 9 square kilometers. There are 14 administrative villages on the island with a population of 15,000. Weishan Island is endowed with beautiful natural scenery and is rich in cultural heritages. It has been named ‘Harmonious Home of Heaven and Man’ by the China Environmental Culture Promotion Association and ranked first on the reputation list of ‘Top 100 Ecological Water-friendly Beauties in China’. Every midsummer, the 100,000 mu of wild lotus around the island blooms in succession, presenting a magnificent sight. Weishan Island has a long history and many historical sites. The historical relics include the tomb of Weizi, the tomb of Zhang Liang in the Han Dynasty, and the tomb of Mu Yi in the Spring and Autumn Period. Weishan Island is a famous anti-Japanese base and the cradle for revolutionary armed forces such as the Railway Guerrilla Force, the Weihu Brigade, and the Canal Detachment.
