The Lion Tower Tourist Area is located in the center of the ancient city of Yanggu County and consists of two parts: the Lion Tower and the Lion Tower Tourist City. The Lion Tower was built in the third year of Jingyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1036 AD). It is famous all over the world because of the heroic Wu Song in Water Margin who fought and killed Ximen Qing to eliminate harm for the people.
The Lion Tower is a double-eaved gable and hip roof building. The upturned eaves, dougong, carved beams and painted pillars of this building are very magnificent. The Lion Tower Tourist City is based on the historical culture of the Song Dynasty. It combines the historical stories and cultural landscapes that took place in Yanggu to show the architectural features of the thousand-year-old ancient city and reproduce the style and features of the streets and alleys in Yanggu City during the Song Dynasty. The main scenic spots include Wu Dalang’s house, Granny Wang’s teahouse, silversmith’s shop, paper horse shop, cold tavern, Zishi Street, Ximen Qing’s five major shops, Lion Street, Jade Emperor Temple, theater building and so on. The Thousand Households Mansion is a large mansion courtyard building with Western Shandong characteristics in the Song Dynasty. It uses the Thousand Households Mansion as a cultural carrier to show the political, economic and social phenomena of the Song Dynasty, so that tourists can appreciate the charm of thousand-year-old culture through the time tunnel and enjoy the architectural culture, furniture culture, clothing culture, antique culture and food culture of the Song Dynasty. The Lion Tower Tourist Area is organically connected and integrated with the 800-meter Song-style commercial pedestrian street – Zishi Street and the thousand-year-old ancient Confucian temple, forming the pattern of ‘thousand-year-old ancient city’ in Yanggu and becoming a Song Dynasty ancient city that reflects the classic story scenes of Water Margin and reproduces the legendary market画卷 of thousands of years.Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 16:30.
