The Shandong Stone Carving Art Museum was built in 1981 and is the first professional museum of stone carving art in China. The museum’s collections are divided into two categories: stone carving cultural relics and rubbings of steles. There are nearly a hundred pieces of stone carving cultural relics including stele inscriptions of past dynasties, statues, Han dynasty stone reliefs and other stone carving artworks. Among them, the Han stone figures, the stone reliefs of Zhu Wei’s stone chamber, and the steles of Gao Zhen, Gao Qing, and Maming Temple are particularly famous. There are thousands of rubbings, basically including all the stele inscriptions, stone reliefs, and data of Northern Dynasties cliff inscriptions from the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Five Dynasties in Shandong region. Representative collections include ‘Stone Reliefs of Zhu Wei’s Stone Chamber’, ‘Han Dynasty Stone Reliefs of Xiaoshentang in Songshan Mountain’, ‘Han Dynasty Stone Barbarians’, Northern Wei ‘Statue Stele of Maming Temple’, ‘Stele of Gao Zhen’, ‘Stele of Gao Qing’, etc. Monographs such as ‘Selected Papers of the Symposium on the Northern Dynasties Inscriptions on Yunteng Mountains’, ‘Investigation and Research on the Inscriptions on Yunteng Mountains’, and ‘Research on the Stone Carvings of the Han Dynasty Wu Clan Tombs’ have been published.
