Qingfeng Tower, originally located in front of the government office, was an integral part of it. The exact construction date of Qingfeng Tower is unknown, but according to the ‘Shunxing Prefecture Chronicles’, it was ‘built during the Tang and Song dynasties’ and later destroyed due to wars and other reasons. In the third year of the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1467), Xingtai Prefecture Governor Li Guangheng spared no expense in rebuilding it. The reconstructed Qingfeng Tower features typical Ming Dynasty architectural style, with a double-eave hipped roof structure, standing over 7 zhang high. It is built on a brick and stone platform, with brackets and eaves that soar, exuding an imposing and majestic presence.
Qingfeng Tower is divided into three levels. The first level is a brick and stone platform with an arched circular gate in the middle, allowing for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and serving as an ideal place to cool off and relax during the summer. The second level is surrounded by blue bricks forming a flower railing, with a main hall in the center, and doors opening at both the front and back. On the southwest corner of the wall inside the hall, there is a set of stone carvings depicting the four seasons of poetry and painting, traditionally attributed to the great Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei, which holds historical and artistic value. Unfortunately, the spring scene is lost, leaving only the summer, autumn, and winter pieces. Additionally, there are ten stone carvings of Qingfeng Tower inscriptions kept indoors. The third level is made of wood, with doors on all four sides, and under the eaves, there is a large plaque inscribed with the three characters ‘Qingfeng Tower’, written with vigorous and elegant calligraphy, originally penned by a prime minister of the Ming Dynasty. The tower offers a panoramic view of the city’s bustling market, the distant Qinghai mountains, and the entire landscape of Xingzhou, hence the name ‘District Tower Overlooking’, and it was one of the ‘Eight Views of Xingtai’ in ancient times. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual conditions on the day.Qingfeng Tower
