Nantianmen is located at the end of the eighteen flights of stairs on Mount Tai, marking the summit of the mountain climbing path. It is nestled between two peaks, appearing as if the gates of heaven have opened naturally. When viewed from below, it resembles a celestial palace, hence the name inspired by a fairyland. Passing through Nantianmen leads to the summit of Mount Tai, signifying the completion of the mountain climbing journey.
Nantianmen is divided into two levels. The lower level features an arched gate with a stone plaque inscribed with ‘Nantianmen’, flanked by stone couplets that read: ‘The gate opens to the nine heavens, looking up to the traces of three days; the steps rise to ten thousand levels, overlooking the wonders of thousands of ridges.’ The upper level houses the ‘Mokong Pavilion’, with a stone plaque on the gate reading ‘Mokong Pavilion’. The white ground is adorned with gold, contrasting with the red walls and complementing the yellow glazed tile roof, making it even more majestic and spectacular.
Nantianmen is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
