The Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall is located in the north of Baotu Spring Park. It was built in 1959 at the original site of Ding Baozhen’s ancestral hall and renovated in 1980. Li Qingzhao (1084 – around 1155), also known as Yi’an Jushi, was a native of Jinan. She was an outstanding female ci poet in the Song Dynasty and represented the ‘graceful and restrained school’ in the field of ci poetry. Her ci works are called ‘Yi’an style’ and have a great influence on later generations.
The memorial hall is in the form of a traditional quadrangle courtyard residence. It has a symmetrical composition on the front, surrounded by winding corridors that are interspersed and vary in an orderly manner. The entire building adopts the style of the Song Dynasty, taking its meaning rather than imitating its form, reflecting the atmosphere of the era in which the female poet lived. The courtyard gate faces south. There are red pillars in the front and back, with double ridges spreading like wings and upturned eaves. A wooden plaque is hung on the lintel, with ‘Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall’ written on it. The main hall faces south. It has a hip-and-gable roof with eaves. There is a front porch and side rooms on the sides. Couplets are hung on the pillars: ‘By Daming Lake and beside Baotu Spring, her former residence is deep among the weeping willows; in Collection of Shuyu and Records of Metal and Stone, her literary grace has the legacy of the later monarch. ‘ Inside the hall, facing the entrance, is a statue of Li Qingzhao. She holds a book scroll. Her brows are deeply furrowed as if in deep thought. On the walls of the hall are displayed calligraphy and paintings by famous people such as Mao Dun, Ye Shengtao, Feng Yuanjun, Shu Tong, Zang Kejia, and Li Kuchan. In the display cases are various editions of Li Qingzhao’s ci works and research monographs by scholars at home and abroad. Opening hours: Open from 07:00 to 19:00 all year round. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall in Baotu Spring
