Longdong Scenic Area is located at the border between Lixia District and Shizhong District in Jinan City, Shandong Province. Legend has it that during the Tang Yao era, a malevolent dragon caused floods and disasters here. When Yu the Great came to control the water, the dragon escaped by boring into the mountain, leaving behind a deep cave. Hence, the mountain is also known as Yu’s Climbing Mountain.
This area boasts a wealth of natural and cultural landscapes. It has been a popular tourist destination since the Song Dynasty. The renowned Qing Dynasty scholar Sun Xingyan praised it with a poem: ‘My visit to Longdong was a marvel, beyond what can be drawn or described.’ The scenic area includes Longdong Mountain, Buddha Valley, and Horseshoe Valley.
